Dhaka, May 10 (UNB) - BNP leaders on Thursday urged the government to place the formula for a non-party government and take initiatives to hold dialogue with political parties on the caretaker government issue.
Addressing a human chain programme, BNP front-ranking leader Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said first the government will have to take decision in principle on the caretaker government issue.
He said then the government will have to take initiatives for holding dialogue placing the formula for a non-party neutral government to hold the next general election in an acceptable and credible manner.
Swadhinata Forum organised the human chain in front of the National Press Club demanding the return of missing BNP leader M Ilias Ali, withdrawal of ‘false’ cases filed against 18-party alliance leaders, including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and the release of BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Dr Mosharraf said foreign guests during their recent visit to Dhaka suggested non-party government to hold the next national elections. ”So, the government must decide in principle to restore the non-party neutral caretaker government.”
Addressing another human chain in front of the National Press Club, another BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia said the caretaker government provision will have to be restored in the Constitution by ousting the government through an irresistible movement.
Jatiyatabadi Muktijudhher Projanma Dhaka district unit organised the human chain.
