Navaran Hospital comes under attack over patient`s death

Benapole, May 10 (UNB) - Navaran Hospital in Sharsha upazila was attacked and damaged on Thursday over the death of a patient blamed for negligence by doctors.

Police and hospital sources said Sohel Rana, 32, of Shalkona village was admitted to the hospital at 3 am following intake of insecticide in his attempt to commit suicide over family feud. He died at 5 am.

``On his arrival no doctor or nurse was present at the hospital``, his kith and kin alleged.

As the news of his death spread more relatives and friends of Sohel rushed to the hospital and engaged in an altercation with its authority.

At one stage they swooped on resident medical officer (RMO) Shahid Anwar and injured him.

They beat nurses, ward boys and staff with sticks and smashed door, window pens, medicine shelf, cupboards and damaged beds and furniture.

Being informed police rushed in and controlled the situation.

Sharsha UNO Quamrul Arif and the thana officer admitted the incident.
