Dhaka, May 10 (UNB) - Planning Minister AK Khandker on Thursday voiced his strong optimism that the ruling Awami League would get back to power riding on its present performance.
"I do believe we'll come to power again for our (AL govt) performance," he said while briefing reporters after the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting that approved the Bangladesh Perspective Plan (2010-2021).
Terming the formulation of Perspective Plan as the outcome of a political decision, Khandker stressed the need for continuation of government for attaining the targets listed in the plan.
He said the country has almost become self-reliant in food and that is a big strength for the nation.
The Planning Minister noted that in the garment sector, Bangladesh is the top 3rd nation in the world apart from its good export performances in leather, leather products and pharmaceuticals.
The minister was also upbeat about the shipbuilding sector and said Bangladesh is exporting ships to Germany and Norway which are very famous worldwide for their shipbuilding.
He, however, said the members of parliament would be apprised of the Perspective Plan soon.
