Gaibandha, May 11 (UNB) - Five people, including four members of a family, were killed as a truck crashed into a van near SP office on Gaibandha-Palash road in sadar upazila on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Shymal Kumer,50, his wife Namita Rani,35, brother Chandan Kumer,40, and aunt Kanchanbala,59, and van driver Asad Ali.

The accident took place when Shymal along with his relatives was taking Nomita Rani to sadar hospital for treatment.

Witnesses said the recklessly-driven truck hit the van at about 5:30 am, leaving the four members of Shymal’s family dead on the spot and the van driver injured.

Van driver Asad succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. The truck driver managed to escape.

Police recovered the bodies.
