Locals said the fire originated from electric short circuit at a house of Russell Hawladar and soon engulfed the adjoining two houses in the afternoon.

Locals extinguished the blaze after one hour of frantic efforts.

Bagerhat Fire Station sources said the firemen could not reach the spot as a bridge of the village was broken.

The affected house owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 12 lakh.

On information, Sadar upazila Parishad chairman Khan Majibur Rahman and Karapara UP Chairman Sheikh Bashirul Islam visited the spot and distributed relief among the affected people.
