News - Attack on YES theatre group: TIB voices deep concern
Dhaka, May 11 (UNB) - Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB) has expressed deep concern over the attack and vandalism unleashed by miscreants at a theatre workshop in Sylhet on Thursday night, arranged by social forum YES.

In a statement on Friday, TIB executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman urged the government, especially the Sylhet administration and law-enforcing agencies, to find out those guilty and take legal steps against the attackers.

He said Bangladesh’s invincible youths will remain active against corruption upholding the glorious culture defying the ill-attempt by the fanatic and communal forces to destroy the spirit of independence by disrupting our own cultural practices.

YES (Youth Engagement and Support) is spearheading TIB’s anti-corruption social movement by sensitizing the young people, nurturing their conscience and providing them with a forum of raising voices against corruption.

The Sylhet branch of YES theatre group has been conducting an anti-corruption theatre workshop at the Sylhet auditorium since May 7. On Thursday night, the miscreants suddenly attacked and destroyed the musical instruments.

“During the attack, the miscreants chanted slogans and left the evidence of threat including posters of Hizbut Tahrir. The TIB considers it as a matter of big concern,” the statement said.
