Dhaka, May 11 (UNB) - BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday warned that the government will face dire consequences if it tries to cling to power by ‘flexing its muscle and restoring to ill-tactics’.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion at the Bhasani Auditorium of city BNP office at Nayapaltan in the evening organised by Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal demanding the rescue of missing BNP leader M Ilias Ali and the release of the arrested party leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Referring to the remarks of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on dialogue with political parties during their recent visit to Dhaka, Fakhrul said the international community along with the people of the country raised their voice against ‘enforced disappearances and killings by the government’.
He said they (ruling party) have resorted to repressive path against their opponents as they have lost soil from beneath their feet.
The BNP acting secretary general criticised the recent remarks by a number of ministers against Nobel Laureate Prof M Yunus. “Their pain is that they couldn’t bag the Nobel despite various maneuverings.”
