Mymensingh, May 12 (UNB) – Masked criminals hacked a ward-level BNP leader to death near Gandropa Bazar on the outskirts of the district town on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Khaleque, general secretary of Ward-2 of Akua Union in the upazila.

Police said the criminals pounced on Khaleque and started chopping him indiscriminately while he was going to Gandropa Bazar in the morning, killing him on the spot. Later, the hoodlums fled the scene firing several gunshots.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police said Khaleque might have been killed following a previous enmity.
