News - Order on Ghulam Azam's indictment today
Dhaka, May 13 (UNB) – The International Crimes Tribunal-1 will decide today (Sunday) whether it will indict former Jamaat ameer Ghulam Azam for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.

The three-judge tribunal headed by Justice Md Nizamul Huq re-fixed the date on May 2 for second time as the judges could not complete detailed examination of the relevant documents and arguments.

Earlier, on April 17, the tribunal re-fixed the date on charge framing against the former Jamaat-e-Islami ameer on the plea of not being able to completely go through the whole things.

The tribunal closed the law-point arguments by the prosecution and the defence lawyers on charge hearing against the accused on May 29.

On January 9, the tribunal took cognisance of charges against the 89–year-old former Jamaat-e-Islami ameer, who officially opposed Bangladesh’s Liberation War and termed it a design of Indian aggression.

The charges of crimes against humanity against Ghulam Azam fall under sections 3(2), 4(1) and 4(2) of International Crimes (Tribunals) Act 1973 that include killing, genocide, loot, rape and arson in collaboration with Rajakar, peace committees, Al Badr and Al Shams, the auxiliary forces of Pakistan junta.
