Dhaka, May 14 (UNB) - President Zillur Rahman on Monday urged the guardians to engage their children in creative activities from childhood to build them as future leaders and citizens with moral qualities.
“Apart from starting regular education, children will have to be engaged in various creative activities -- dancing, singing, reciting, painting, story telling and sports. So, the families will have to play a responsible role in this regard,” he said.
The President made the remarks while addressing a function of Kendrio Khelaghar Asar at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban marking its 60th anniversary.
Kendrio Khelaghar Asar, an organisation devoted to building young generation with the spirit of the Liberation War, awarded five distinguished personalities. President Zillur Rahman handed over the awards at the function.
The awardees are educationist Prof Zillur Rahman Siddiqui, artiste Sohrab Hossain, journalist Golam Sarwar, novelist Rahat Khan and children’s organiser Altaf Mahmud.
Speaking on the occasion, President Zillur Rahman said good results might be achieved through bookish education but there is no alternative to creative activities to build children as ‘good human being.’
Zillur recalled those brilliant sons of the soil - poet Habibur Rahman, martyred Shahidullah Kaiser, Zahir Raihan and Altaf Mahmud, Ronesh Dasgupta, Satton Sen, Artist Kamrul Hasan and journalist Bazlur Rahman who had established Khelaghar Asar to build children with non-communal, scientific and cultural spirits.
“Thoughts of those farsighted personalities are equally applicable these days,” he said.
President Zillur also urged all to contribute from their respective positions to build prosperous Bangladesh where each child will get all opportunities to grow up as competent and ideal citizens.
Kendrio Khelaghar Asar chairman Prof Panna Kaiser presided over the function while educationist Prof Zillur Rahman Siddiqui among the awardees spoke on this occasion.
Panna Kaiser expressed her gratitude to the President for organising the function at Bangabhaban. She informed that over 600 branches of the organisations have been working across the country.
Children of Kendrio Khelaghar Asar performed some cultural activities at the end of the function.
Earlier, on April 26, a seven-member delegation met President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban and awarded him an honorary crest and scurf.
Set up on May 2, 1952, Kendrio Khelaghar Asar has been working to build the country’s Shishu-Kishore as good and patriotic citizens through flourishing their talents.
