
Dhaka, May 14 (UNB) -Journalists will observe a sit-in programme in front of Home Ministry on Tuesday to press home their various demands including arrest of the killers of journalist couple Sagar-Runi.
On March 18, the newsmen had announced the sit-in programme before the Home Ministry from a grand rally demanding arrest of the killers of the journalist couple by April 7.
They deferred their programme until May 5 as the home minister assured them of arresting the killers of Sagar-Runi soon.
However, the journalists announced that they would observe the programme on May 6 if the law enforces fail to arrest the killers by May 5.
The May 6 programme was later shifted to May 15 as Buddha Purnima, the biggest religious festival of the Buddhist community, fell on the day.
BFUJ Presidents Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and Ruhul Amin Gazi, BFUJ General Secretaries Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan and M Abdullah (acting), DUJ Presidents Abdus Shahid and Omar Faruq, DUJ General Secretaries Mohammad Baker Hossain and Shaban Mahmud, National Press Club's president Kamaluddin Sabuj, general secretary Syed Abdal Ahmed and DRU President Shakhawat Hossain Badsha and General Secretary Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu called upon all journalists to make the programme a success.
On February 11, Sagar Sarowar, news editor at Maasranga TV, and his wife Meherun Runi, senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were found murdered at their West Rajabazar house in the city.
The other demands of the journalists include trial of all the killings of journalists in the past, stopping oppression on them and ensuring freedom of the press.
