Dhaka, May 14 (UNB) – Stocks at both the bourses - Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – bounced back on Monday after experiencing moderate losses on the opening day of the week.

The DSE benchmark index, DGEN, gained 1.10 percent or 55.34 points to close at 5057.15, while the CSE key index, CSCX, showed a gain of 123.75 points to close at 9553.4831 after the end of day’s four-hour trading.

The CSE key index, CSCX, closed at 9429.72 losing 159.32 points on Sunday while it gained 319.76 points on Thursday though it lost 331.73 points on Wednesday.

The turnover in both the bourses also remained below expectation as many of the investors refrained from injecting fresh funds into the market.

“The benchmark Index DGEN was hovering around psychological level of 5000 points with decreased turnover for the last four trading sessions and investors’ remained skeptical on the next probable direction of DGEN amid forthcoming deadline of SEC’s circular on minimum share holding,” IDLC Investment Limited said in its daily market analysis.

During the day’s upward movement, all the major sectors gained with Textile (2.19%), Bank (2.13%) and General Insurance (1.74%) emerging the top most gainers, according to the analysis.

The DSE turnover came down to Tk 348 crore which was Tk 389 crore on Sunday. The premier bourse recorded Tk 421 crore and Tk 383 crore turnovers respectively on Thursday and Wednesday.

The port city bourse turnover, however, saw a slight rise with Tk 48.47 crore against Tk 46.97 crore, Tk 61.69 crore and Tk 49.20 crore recorded respectively on Sunday, Thursday and Wednesday.

Of the issues traded at the DSE today, 176 issues gained, 64 suffered losses and 19 remained unchanged.

At the CSE, 123 gained, 44 suffered losses and 9 remained unchanged at the end of the day’s trading.
