Dhaka, May 14 (UNB) – The government has been urged to immediately implement the Vested Property Return (Amended) Act passed in parliament about five months ago.
The call came in a statement issued on Monday by eight human rights organisations and citizens groups of the country.
Expressing grave concern at the non-implementation of the Vested Property Return (Amended) Act 154 days after it was passed in parliament, the leaders and heads of the eight organisations said that Clause `Ka` and Clause `Kha` of the Act stipulate that a district-wise list of all the vested property, based on mouja, must be prepared and published in a gazette within 150 days after its ratification.
They also mentioned that the people of the country have not been notified about the set of rules in the Vested Property Return (Amended) Act-2011 which was passed in the house on Dec 11, 2011.
The organizations which issued the statement are: Ain o Salish Kendro, Bangladesh Hindu Buddha Christian Oikya Parishad (BHBCOP), Nijera Kori, ALRD, Sammilito Samajik Andolon, Bangladesh Legal Aid & Services Trust (BLAST), HDRC and Arpito Sampatti Ain Protirodh Andolon (ASAPA).
Signatories to the statement are: Advocate Sultana Kamal, Khushi Kabir, Adv Ranadash Gupta, Kamal Lohani, Adv Tobarak Hossain, Dr Abul Barakat, Adv Subrata Chowdhury, Sara Hossain and Shamsul Huda.
