Dhaka, May 15 (UNB) – Journalists will submit a memorandum to the Speaker on June 5 and march towards the Prime Minister’s Office on June 26 demanding arrest of the killers of journalist couple Sagar and Runi.
The fresh prorammes were announced from a sit-in staged in front of the Home Ministry on Tuesday.
The media people held the sit-in to press home their various demands, including the arrest of the killers of journalist couple Sagar and Runi.
On March 18, the newsmen announced the sit-in programme before the Home Ministry from a grand rally demanding the arrest of the killers of the journalist couple by April 7.
They deferred their programme until May 5 as the home minister assured them of arresting the killers of Sagar and Runi soon.
However, the journalists announced that they would observe the programme on May 6 if the law enforces fail to arrest the killers by May 5.
The May 6 programme was later shifted to May 15 as Buddha Purnima, the biggest religious festival of the Buddhist community, fell on the day.
On February 11, Sagar Sarowar, news editor at Maasranga TV, and his wife Meherun Runi, senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were found murdered at their West Rajabazar house in the city.
The other demands of the journalists include the trial of all the killings of journalists in the past, stopping oppression of them and ensuring freedom of the press.
