Dhaka, May 15 (UNB) - The High Court on Tuesday banned the publication of popular writer Humayun Ahmed‘s novel, ‘Deyal’, as it contains ‘wrong and objectionable information’ about the tragic killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Passing the order, an HC division bench, comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Jahangir Hossain, also issued a rule asking the government to explain why a direction should not be given to correct the wrong information of the novel.
The HC bench came up with its suo moto rule and order when Attorney General Mahbube Alam drew the court’s attention to the sensitive matter.
In its order, the HC further asked the Attorney General to provide the judgment in the Bangabandhu murder case along with the paper-book in connection with the case to the writer that will help him correct the wrong information about the August 15 tragedy.
The secretaries to Education and Information ministries, among others, were made respondents to the rule.
The popular novelist has been writing a novel on the 15 August assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members and its aftermath.
On August 15, 1975, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, along with most members of his family, was gunned down by an army cabal.
Two chapters of the novel were published in a Bengali daily on May 11, sparking off criticism across the country, particularly social media networks.
