Dhaka, May 15 (UNB) – A parliamentary body recommended for halting all government facilities, including jetty, to those cement factories which did not pay the arrears of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).
At its 35th meeting at Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday, the parliamentary standing committee on the Shipping Ministry suggested that as the cement factories did not pay their dues despite various steps taken in this regard.
Chaired by committee chairman, Nur-e-Alam Chowdhury, the meeting called for taking necessary steps for constructing flyover from Karnaphuli Bridge to Chittagong Airport for fulfilling the commitment of the Prime Minister.
The meeting suggested for taking necessary steps for launching the Pangaon Internal Container
Shipping terminal immediately.
The meeting recommended for undertaking necessary steps for constructing an international standard exposition-cum- convention centre on the land belonging to the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation in Chittagong.
It was stressed in the meeting for taking more cautious steps regarding expenditure of money in other sectors including renovation of equipment at Chittagong port.
Security of the Chittagong port also came up for discussion at the meeting.
Committee member and Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan and other members—Mostafa Kamal Pasha, Habibun Nahar, Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, Nasrul Hamid and Nazrul Islam Babu attended the meeting.
