Citycell First Division basketball League begins on Saturday

Dhaka, May 16 (UNB) - The Citycell Metropolis First Division Basketball League begins on Saturday (May 19) at Dhanmondi Basketball Gymnasium here.

Seven teams-Flame Boys, Eagles, Wraith, the Shawons, Cantonians, Old DOHS and Josephites-will take part in the first phase of the two-tier metropolis league.

General Secretary of Bangladesh Basketball Federation Lt Com AK Sarker disclosed the details of the league at a press conference at the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) auditorium today (Wednesday).

Head of Corporate Communication of Public Relations of the league sponsor CityCell Taslim Ahmed and human resources director of CityCell Sumon Bhattacharjee also addressed the brief conference.

On completion of the league, two top teams of the first division will earn the rights to play in the 10-team Citycell Premier Division Basketball League along with eight premier division clubs.

The 10-team Premier Division Basketball League will begin on May 27 at the same venue.

Eight premier division clubs are: Europa Youth, the Gregarious, Dhumketu Club, Rangers, The Gregs, Hornets SC, Mohammadpur Basketball Club and Bokshibazar.

CityCell, which already sponsored the Independence Day Basketball Tournament- 2012, will also sponsor School Basketball Tournament that will begin in next June and a basketball training camp in next July.

Some 25 selected young and talented players from metropolis league and school tournament will be given a two-month long intensive training.
