Magura, May 18 (UNB)-Three people, including a couple, were killed and five others injured in lightning strikes in Sadar and Mohammadpur upazilas of the district Thursday night.

Mohammadpur thana officer-in-charge Md Sagir Miah said a thunderbolt hit Bhasan Mollah, 45, and his wife Rokeya Begum, 35  when they were sitting in the veranda during a storm at Gopinathpur village, killing them on the spot.

Meanwhile, Ali Hossain, 5, son of Aktar Hossain, was killed as a lightning struck him in his house at Kapashati village in Sadar upazila the same night.

Five people - Shilpi, 26, Tripti, 7, Selina, 35, Keya, 6, and Riyad, 13 - were also injured in lighting strikes during the storm in Sadar upazila. They were admitted to Sadar Hospital.

Besides, over 100 kutcha houses and educational institutions were damaged in Salikha upazila during the storm.
