Dhaka, May 20 (UNB) - Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain on Sunday stressed the need for dialogue between Awami League and BNP to break the ongoing political standoff and save the country from any possible ‘disaster’.
In a statement, Dr Kamal voiced grave concern over the present political situation, especially the standoff between ruling Awami League and the main opposition BNP, over several key issues, including caretaker government system, and requested all the parties to sit across the table and solve the problems through dialogue.
Expressing deep concern over the deteriorating law and order, the Gono Forum chief observed that the country is struck by turmoil, including violence, clash and conflict which is increasing day by day and reaching an alarming level.
The unstable situation which is prevailing in the country will plunge it into deeper crisis from where comeback to normalcy will be difficult, he cautioned. ``The standoff may lead the country to a disaster,” he warned.
People want the problem to be solved peacefully through dialogue, he said, adding “People believe that there is no alternative to dialogue in order to come out of the crisis.”
He also expressed concern over `forced disappearance`, killings and soaring prices of essentials.
