8 killed, 25 injured in road accidents in 5 dists
Dhaka, May 21 (UNB) – At least eight people, including two of a family and a cop, were killed and 26 others injured in road accidents in Gazipur, Comilla, Satkhira, Joypurhat and Faridpur districts on Monday.
In Comilla: A granny and her grandson and an unidentified man were killed and three other people injured in separate road accidents in Chandina upazila in the afternoon.
Police said a tractor hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw leaving auto-rickshaw passenger Anuja Begum, 50, wife of Joynal Mia of Koikoroi village and her grand son Ismail, 5, dead on the spot and three other inmates, including CNG driver severely injured at Dolainababpur village on Madaiya-Rahimanagar road at 2 pm.
In separate accident, a Comilla city-bound bus crushed an unidentified male pedestrian at Nuritala on Dhaka-Chittagong highway, also in the afternoon.
In Gazipur: A Dhaka-bound bus from Bogra knocked down police constable Abdul Jalil, 48, leaving him critically injured at Bhogra Bypass on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near Naojor in sadar upazila at 3:30 pm.
He was rushed to Sadar Hospital where he succumbed at 4 pm.
Jalil, a member of Naojor Highway Police, was doing his duty when he met the accident.
In Satkhira: A tractor collided with a Jessore-bound Nasimon (human hauler) instantly killing a Nasimon passenger, injuring two others at Kazirhat More on Satkhira-Jessore road in Kolaroa upazila at 6 am.
The dead is: Abdul Sohag Chair, 48, of Raghunathpur village of the upazila. The injured are: Dishar Ali, 65, of Lohakura village and Zohra Khatun, wife of Abul Hosen of Basatpur of Sharsha upazila of Jessore.
Police said they were going to Bagachra of Jessore by a Nasimon.
The injured were admitted to Satkhira Hospital.
In Joypurhat: A motorcyclist was killed and co-rider injured in an accident at Dharki Charmatha on Joypurhat-Bogra Bypass road in sadar upazila in the afternoon.
The dead is: Swapan, 28, a businessman of Dhopaipur of sadar upazila of Naogaon.
Police said a microbus hit their bike leaving Swapan dead on the spot and the co-rider, aged around 26, seriously injured.
He was admitted to Joypurhat Modern Hospital which referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
In Faridpur: Two people were killed and 19 others injured as a Kushtia-bound truck from Tekerhat, carrying passengers, plunged into a ditch after skidding at Kandirpar at Dangi union in Nagarkanda upazila at 4:30 pm today.
The dead are: Atiar Hossain and Ashraf Ali, both inmates of the truck which met the fatal accident as its driver lost control over the steering when giving side to a pick-up van on Dhaka-Barisal highway.
The injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Conditions of two of them were stated to be critical.
