Dhaka, May 21 (UNB) - The vital Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier Football League match between two traditional rivals Dhaka Abahani Ltd and Dhaka Mohammedan SC will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
The battle of the titans will kick off at 6:00 pm.
The popular Dhanmondi-based sky blue-yellow outfit, Abahani clearly dominates the league table securing 30 points from 12 matches while the traditional black-white Mohammedan languishes in the 7th place with 14 points from 11 outings.
The first phase match between the two teams was locked 1-1 with Abahani taking lead in the 44th minute by a Lucky Paul Otofe goal while Basden Wilcox scored the equalizer for Mohammedan in the 60th minute.
Recalling the lessons of the first phase match, Abahani manager Satyajit Das Rupu said: “Our mental focus was probably in the right track. We created a lot of chances but could not capitalize on those.”
He added: “We are aware of our weakness. Tuesday’s match is important for us… we’re determined to win and consolidate our position at the top.”
Mohammedan coach Emeka Ezeugo grudgingly admitted the superiority of his rivals. He said: “At the moment, Abahani is at the top of the table, and they are also stronger.”
He, however, added that with all respect to them, “I want to say that Mohammedan now is a charged unit and the players are ready to fight it out. Abahani will have a tough time in the field tomorrow.”
