Sylhet, May 22 (UNB) – At least 10 people were injured in an intra-party clash of Jubo League over establishing dominance in Osmaninagar upazila of the city on Monday night.
Locals said Zabed Ahmad Ambia and Altafur Rahman Sohel groups of Jubo League Osmaninagar thana unit had a longstanding dispute to establish supremacy in the area.
In a sequel to the enmity, two Jubo League factions took position in Goalabazar area on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at about 9pm.
At one stage, Sohel group staged motorbike showdown and activists of Ambia group threw brickbats at the showdown that triggered a clash between the two groups leaving 10 people injured from both sides.
At that time, the groups vandalized some vehicles and business establishments and fired seven rounds of bullets. Vehicles movement on the highway was disrupted for one and a half-hour.
Traffic movement became normal in the area after additional riot police rushed to the spot.
The riot police were posted in the area to avoid further trouble. Of the injured two were identified as Harun Mia, 15 a passerby and Sanaur Ali, 35, a Jubo League activist.
