Political stability, policy continuation must for dev: Barua
Infrastructure dev key to attracting foreign investment: DCCI

Dhaka, May 22 (UNB) – Industries Minister Dilip Barua on Tuesday said the country needs political stability and continuation of policies for sustainable economic development.
“Changes in policies with the change of a government had impeded industrialisation in the past,” he told a business discussion in the city.
The Industries Minister said the country could have achieved rapid economic growth had there been the continuation of policies after the changes of governments.
Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and Bangladesh Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) jointly arranged the meeting, titled ‘Showcase Bangladesh 2012’, at DCCI auditorium.
Additional Commerce Secretary Manoj Kumar Roy, BMCCI president Syed Nurul Islam, former BMCCI president Syed Moazzam Hossain, BMCCI secretary general architect M Alamgir Jalil and Deputy Managing Director of Islami Bank Limited M Nurul Islam took part in the discussion held with DCCI president Asif Ibrahim in the chair.
Speaking on the occasion, Asif Ibrahim said the government should give attention to infrastructure development to attract foreign investment in a larger volume. “If we don’t have required infrastructure, foreign investors won’t come here.”
He said the desired GDP (gross domestic product) growth is unlikely to be achieved unless required infrastructure development is there in place.
Manoj Kumar Roy appreciated the organisers of the Showcase Bangladesh 2012 and assured them of providing required government support. “The fair will help popularise Bangladeshi products abroad, increase export and boost foreign currency earning.”
He said there is ample scope to enhance Bangladesh’s market share in the Malaysian market. “The exporters should avail of the opportunity of enhancing trade with Malaysia.”
Syed Nurul Islam said the remittance inflow from Malaysia that recently crossed a US$ 1 billion-mark can jump to US$ 1.5 billion if the existing 5 lakh Bangladeshi workers keep on sending money through the formal channel. “The fair will help make it happen.”
The second ‘Showcase Bangladesh 2012’ will be held in Dataran Merdeka Square, Kuala Lumpur from July 13 to July 15.
BMCCI in collaboration with Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia, Malaysia South-South Association, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation will arrange the three-day trade show.
Former BMCCI president and chairman of the fair organising committee Syed Moazzam Hossain described the objectives of the event through a power-point presentation.
The objectives of the showcase are to promote and project Bangladesh for the total branding of its image, heritage and culture in Malaysia, and promote bilateral trade between the two countries through export diversification.
