Dhaka, May 22 (UNB) - Mediocre Dhaka Mohammedan SC stunned league leader Dhaka Abahani Limited beating them by 2-0 goals in a vital match of Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Tuesday.

This was the first defeat for sky-yellow popular Dhanmondi outfit Abahani Limited in their 13th match of the ongoing league while it was the 4th victory for Mohammedan SC in their 12th league encounters.

But the day’s defeat did no hamper the Abahani’s top slot in the league table as they secured 30 points from 13 matches while Mohammedan SC advanced to the 5th slot in the points table with 17 points from 12 outings.

Both the goals were scored in the first half with Sohel Rana putting the traditional black and white team Mohammedan ahead in the 26th minute while Wahed doubled the margin in the 42nd minute.

Mohammedan took lead in the 26th minute as their unmarked Sohel Rana sent the ball home from six-yard box when a curving cross of midfielder Shariful Islam came his way from Abahani goalie Shahidul Alaam Sohel (1-0).

Sohel Rana took a long range shot in the 32nd minute but his attempt flew over the bar.

Promising forward Wahed confirmed the Mohammedan’s most desired victory in the league scoring the 2nd goal in the 44th minute by an angular shot after breaking an offside trap by the Abahani defenders (2-0).

Abahani created strong pressure over Mohammedan territory but all of their efforts went in vain due to their poor finishing in the remaining period.

In the 50th minute, Abahani’s Ghanaian booter Awudu Ibrahim made a good shot but Mohammedan’s custodian Titumir saved his castle at the cost of corner.

In the 55th minute, a free kick of Zahid was nicely punched by Mohammedan’s goalie in the same fashion.

In the stoppage time, a grounder of Abahani’s Cameroonian booter Yoko Samnick, was brilliantly fisted away by Mohammad goalie Titumir.

In the 39th minute, Sohel Rana of Mohammedan was sent off after receiving the second yellow card in the match.
