Dhaka, May 22 (UNB) - Social Welfare Minister Enamul Haque Mostafa Shaheed on Tuesday said that the purview of social safety net for the deprived people, including disable, will be expanded further.
It is possible to bring the people with disability to the mainstream of development through the coordinated efforts of the government and non-governmental organisations, he said addressing a roundtable in the city.
Jointly organized by Action for Disability and Development International, Daily Star, Manusher Jonno Foundation and Siri, the roundtable titled ‘Disability Inclusive National Budget 2012-2013’ was held at Daily Star Bhaban.
Information Commissioner Dr Sadeka Halim, former caretaker government adviser Rasheda K Chowdhury and chairman of PKSF Dr Kazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, among other, addressed on the occasion.
In his address, the minister said services and assistance centres for disabled people would be established at each district by this year. “Such 36 centres have already been set up”.
The minister also sought more cooperation from the media for establishing the rights of the disabled people.
