SYDNEY, MAY 24 (AP/UNB) - Sydney FC has signed Brazilian fullback Fabio Alves Macedo ahead of the coming Australian A-League season.

Fabio, 27, had a recent trial with the club and will officially join on a two-year deal once visa requirements are finalized, Sydney FC said Thursday.

The signing comes only three days after Sydney coach Ian Crook's hired Iraq international Ali Abbas.

Born in the regional Brazilian city of Ariquemes, Fabio played for several South American teams including popular Brazil club Flamengo and Argentina's Newell's Old Boys, before signing with A-League club Melbourne Victory in 2011.

Crook said Fabio is a good technical player, adding "He feels as though he has a point to prove, so he has a lot of hunger as well."
