One gets 17 yrs jail for possessing arms in Jessore

Benapole (Jessore), May 25 (UNB) - A court in Jessore town Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to 17 years imprisonment for possessing arms and ammunition.

The convict is SM Sajib alias Romel, hailed from Lahuria village in Lohagora upazila of Narail district and a resident of Jessore town.

According to prosecution, police arrested Sajib along with a shutter gun and one round of bullet when he went to the house of one Hanif Khan of Bejpara Taltola area of the town for collecting tolls on June 6, 1999. A case was filed in this connection.

After examining the records and witnesses Additional District and Sessions Judge Mizanur Rahman handed down the verdict.
