3 killed in lightning strike in Jamalpur

Jamalpur, May 25 (UNB) - Three labourers were killed as a thunderbolt struck them at Chataria village in Sharishabari upazila on Thursday night.

The victims were identified as Nabir Ali, 26, Mohammad Ali, 30, and Moinul, 25. They hailed from Majna village in Sirajganj district.

Witnesses said the thunderbolt struck the shallow machine room where the three workers took shelter during rain leaving them dead on the spot around 8pm.

Later, the bodies were handed over to their relatives.

In another incident, lightning hit a rice godown of Abdus Sattar of Kargram village in the same upazila that burned down 200 maunds of rice worth Tk 1 lakh the same night.

On information, two fire fighting units from Sadar and Sharishabari rushed to the spot and put out the blaze.
