Dhaka, May 26 (UNB) - Nine cops of Sher-e-Bangla thana have been suspended on charge of assaulting three journalists at city’s Agargaon on Saturday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Public Relations) Masudur Rahman said Assistant Commissioner (Tejgaon Zone) Shahidul Islam has also been closed to DMP headquarters for his failure to tackle the situation.

The suspended policemen are: Sub-Inspector (SI) Jahir, ASI Sahik, ASI Nazmul, constables--Motiur, Razzak, Shahjahan, Joinal, Ratan and Jahangir.

Witnesses said policemen charged baton on three photojournalists of Prothom Alo-Khaled Sarker, Sajid Hossain and Jahidul Karim-when they were taking snaps of road barricade put up by the students of Agargaon Polytechnic College near the college as part of their agitation programme at noon Saturday.

Being injured in the attack, the journalists were admitted to Pangu Hospital.

Actions against AC Shahidul and nine other cops were taken following the incident, said Masudur Rahman.
