Dhaka, May 26 (UNB) - Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique has urged the students to uphold peace, the message of Islam, to the world`s people with a view to disseminating its truism to them.

The call came at a fresher reception accorded to the newcomers of the Islamic Studies Department, held at the auditorium of the Teachers Students Centre on Saturday.

Chaired by chairman of Islamic Studies Department Prof Dr Mohammad Shafique Ahmed, the function was addressed, among others, by DU pro-VC Prof Dr Harun Ur Rashid, dean of Arts Faculty Prof Dr Sadrul Amin and Prof Dr ANM Rais Uddin.

Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Arefin Siddique said there is no place of militancy, archery and fundamentalism in Islam and the religion has brought peace and civilisation in the world.

He viewed that all problems of the world could be resolved applying Islamic philosophy, but a section of people are misinterpreting Islam with an ulterior motive to create anarchy, reign of terror and killing.

“Propaganda against Islam is being carried out in the world with the aim to creating a misconception about the religion of peace among people``, he said, adding ``Islam has been discriminated globally in this way.”

He said the misconception can be removed by conducting research on the Holy Quran and the Holy Hadith and disseminating the message to the people of the world.
