Abahani takes solo lead beating Brothers Union by 4-2 goals

Dhaka, May 26 (UNB) - Abahani Limited took a solo lead again in the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League beating Brothers Union Club by
4-2 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here today (Saturday).

After the day’s feat, the popular Dhanmondi outfit Abahani not only returned to the winning run after a shocking 0-2 defeat against arch-rivals Mohammedan SC, but also regain the top slot alone securing 33 points from 14 matches while Brothers Union remained at 15 points, also playing 14 outings.

Ghanaian booter Twun Frank struck twice in the 16th and 45th minutes while another Ghanaian Awudu Ibrahim and Arman netted one in the 48th and 65th minutes for Abahani.

Nigerian booter Joshua and Kingsley scored for Brothers Union in the 60th and 77th minutes respectively.

Zahid of Abahani got marching order in the 31st minute after receiving the 2nd yellow card in the match.

In the day’s match, Abahani took lead in the 16th minute from a penalty.

Brothers midfielder Mohammad Javed brought down Abahani’s right winger Mohammad Zahid from the behind in the danger zone and Ghanaian striker Twum Frank did no mistake to convert a spot kick (1-0).

The popular sky-blue team were reduced to 10-men in the 30th minute when referee Azad Rahman sent off winger Mohammad Zahid showing the second yellow in the match.

But Abahani maintained their attacking football and got its fruit as Ghanaian striker Twum Frank scored his second goal by a header, off right wing cross from defender Mohammad Linkon (2-0).

After the break, Ghanaian play maker Awudu Ibrahim scored the third goal for Abahani in the 48th minute by a powerful shot, off a cut back of Brazilian forward Jean Carlo De Silva (3-0)

Brothers came back in the game in the 60th minute when their Nigerian forward Olalekan Jashua headed home after Abahani’s goalie Shahidul Alam Shohel missed the flight of Brothers midfielder Tonmoy Hossain Tanu’s cross. (3-1).

Midfielder Arman Aziz sealed the fate of the match scoring the 4th goal for Abahani in the 65th minute by his lone effort after taking a pass from Ibrahim (4-1).

Nigerian forward Kingsley Chizoba reduced the margin for Brothers Union in the 77th minute by a cracking shot from the edge of the box off his compatriot Olalekan Joshua. (4-2)
