Manikganj, May 26 (UNB) - At least 20 people, including a journalist, were injured as three groups of local BNP clashed at a views-exchange meeting here on Saturday.
The meeting was arranged at local Ainjibi Bhaban in the evening to make the grand rally of BNP, to be held on June 11 a success.
At the outset of the meeting, a brawl broke out between supporters of Delwar group and Monno group over who would preside over the meeting.
At that time, BNP standing committee member and former Speaker Jamiruddin Sircar, who attended the meeting as the chief guest, announced to preside over the meeting.
After some time, the supporters of Toja-Tuku group in a procession arrived at the venue when a clash broke out between the supporters of Toja-Tuku group and that of two other groups.
Party activists took Jamiruddin Sircar to a safer place during the clash.
The clash spread to adjacent areas in the town, leaving at least 20 people, including Manikganj district correspondent of Channel 24 BM Khorshed, injured.
Police brought the situation under control half an hour after the clash and also arrested five people.
