Dhaka, May 26 (UNB) - A parliamentary watchdog from a meeting today (Saturday) recommended that the Power Development Board (PDB) take effective measures to check misuse of electricity.
Held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with committee Chairman Mohammad Subid Ali Bhuiyan in the chair, the meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on Power and Energy Ministry also asked the PDB to take steps to repair the closed power plants to improve the power supply situation.
The PDB officials, however, informed the meeting that they had already taken measures to repair some of its inoperative power plants through its own engineers.
The meeting suggested that the PDB be attentive to determine the scale of actual demand and load-shedding and the requirement of subsidy in the next budget.
The PDB officials noted that the unusual fuel price hike on the international market and gas crisis have been the main reason for the present power crisis. But the necessary measures have been taken to overcome the crises, said the PDB officials.
The meeting was attended by the committee members Israfil Alam, Omar Faruque Chowdhury and Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
Power Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, PDB Chairman ASM Alamgir Kabir and other senior officials of the ministry were present at the meeting.
