News - FBCCI delegation off to Bhutan to explore investment prospects
Dhaka, May 28 (UNB) – An 18-member high-profile business delegation, led by the country’s apex trade body president AK Azad, left here on Monday for Bhutan to explore investment opportunities in hydroelectric power, and strengthen trade ties.

The delegation will hold meetings on bilateral trade and investment issues with Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Bhutanese Prime Minister Lyonchen Jigme Yoser Thinley, Economic Affairs Minister Lynopo Khandu Wangchuk and Agriculture and Forests Minister Dr Pema Gyamtsho during the four-day visit.

The issues relating to electricity import from Bhutan and regional connectivity will also come up for discussion at the meetings.

The delegation of the FBCCI (Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry) will also have a meeting with the leaders of Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on business cooperation, said a delegation member.

He said the business leaders will visit Bhutan’s Woodcraft Centre, agro industry and hydroelectric projects to gather experiences and explore investment opportunities.

FBCCI sources said the delegation will request Bhutan to withdraw restriction on import of furniture, juice, energy drinks, chips, noodles and other foodstuff from Bangladesh.
