
Comilla, May 29 (UNB) – Rail communications of Chittagong with Dhaka and other parts of the country could not be resumed as of 1:30 pm today (Tuesday) as the freight train derailed near Moynamati Railway Station in South Sadar upazila is yet to be salvaged.
Railway sources said four bogies of the Dhaka-bound train from Chittagong veered off the track at Jangalia at about 1:30 am, disrupting train communications on Chittagong-Dhaka, Chittagong-Mymensingh and Chittagong-Sylhet routes.
Two relief trains from Akhaura and Laksham reached the spot at 6 am to salvage the train, said assistant engineer of Comilla Railway Station Hamidul Haque.
But the derailed bogies could not be salvaged till filing of this report at 1:30 pm.
Hamidul said they will need time till evening to restore the rail communications on different routes.
The train derailment led to five trains on Dhaka, Chittagong-Mymensingh and Chittagong-Sylhet routes being cancelled.
Several thousands passengers got stranded at different stations following the train derailment.
