Two relief trains from Akhaura and Laksham reached the spot at 6 am to salvage the train, said assistant engineer of Comilla Railway Station Hamidul Haque.

But the derailed bogies could not be salvaged till filing of this report at 1:30 pm.

Hamidul said they will need time till evening to restore the rail communications on different routes.

The train derailment led to five trains on Dhaka, Chittagong-Mymensingh and Chittagong-Sylhet routes being cancelled.

Several thousands passengers got stranded at different stations following the train derailment.
