Jhenidah, May 29 (UNB) – Over 500 named and unnamed villagers were sued early Monday over attack and ransacking of Shailakupa-Tamaltala police outpost on Saturday.
Osman Goni, in-charge of Shailakupa-Tamaltola outpost filed the case against 75 named and more than 425 unnamed people of several villages of Dignagar union.
Police and witnesses said two rival groups of Gabindapur village, led by Jamaluddin and Elahi Box and equipped with lethal weapons, were preparing to lock horns over establishing dominance at Gabindapur village on Saturday.
Being informed police rushed in and arrested one Nurul Islam of neighbouring Dignagar village from the spot in order to fend off possible clash between the two groups.
Angered at the arrest, several thousand people, equipped with lethal weapons from Agunipara, Shiddhi and Dignagar village of Dignagar union attacked Shailakupa-Tomaltala police outpost and ransacked it. Police fired five rounds of warning shot to bring the situation under control.
