Dhaka, May 29 (UNB) – Commerce Minister GM Quader on Tuesday urged the women entrepreneurs to diversify their areas of work to make their ventures sustainable and ensure greater role in the country’s mainstream economy.
“Despite many barriers, women have demonstrated their abilities in all sectors of business through their persistent efforts…now you need to diversify your works coming out from boutiques and parlor businesses,” he told an award-distributing ceremony in the city.
Appreciating women’s successes in various sectors, Quader said the country’s economic growth would double if women are given the opportunities to contribute equally alongside men. ‘We all need to come forward to support them.”
The Commerce Minister suggested the women entrepreneurs to repay the loans timely to keep the credit flow smooth. “If you don’t pay back the loans timely, you might face difficulty in having access to further credit.”
He mentioned that the present government has taken various initiatives to empower women. “I request all to join hands together and come forward for promoting women entrepreneurship in the country.”
Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) arranged the event titled ‘BWCCI-EBL Progressive Award 2011-12” in cooperation with the Eastern Bank Limited (EBL) at the Multipurpose Hall of Diploma Engineer’s Institute.

He urged the chamber leaders to take initiatives for providing training on business accounting.
Selima Ahmad said her chamber is working for the development of women. “Our chamber is free from political influence and dedicated to empower women through entrepreneurship.”
