Dhaka, May 29 (UNB) - Amid protest by retail investors, stocks at the country’s twin bourse -- Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange -- extended losses on Tuesday posting a slight rise at the premier bourse’s turnover.

The DSE benchmark index, DGEN, shed 14.44 points or 0.31 percent to close at 4631.17 after the four-hour trading of the day. The tracking index lost 43.66 points or 0.93 percent to stand at 4601.95 points at 11:25 am.

The premier bourse lost around 82 and 70 points respectively in the first two sessions of the week.

Of the issues traded at the DSE, 128 advanced, 110 declined and 18 remained unchanged.

The DSE turnover made a slight rise posting Tk 235 crore against Tk 183 recorded on Monday.

“The prevailing lack of confidence in the market, coupled with loss-aversion attitude and liquidity squeeze yielded another session with modest turnover,” IDLC Investments said in its daily analysis.

Still, as market participants cautiously await the outcome of ongoing writ issues, the wait-and-see approach taken by investors said to be the key reason for low turnover, it said.

On the other hand, the CSE key index, CSCX, closed at 8834.02 losing 20.15 points.

Of the issues traded at the CSE, only 68 gained, 91 declined and 13 remained unchanged. The CSE turnover stood at 31.09 crore.
