News - PM meets Deputy Emir of Qatar; discusses construction of Padma Bridge, other projects
DOHA (Qatar), May 30 (UNB) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met Crown Prince and Deputy Emir of Qatar Tamim Bin Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani at the Emiri Dewan this (Wednesday) morning and discussed the construction of the Padma Bridge Project and a new international airport in Bangladesh.

Prior to her departure for Dhaka after attending the US-Islamic World Forum, Sheikh Hasina also discussed with the Deputy Emir of Qatar about the upgradation of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and construction of a 1000-MW power plant in the country.

Besides, issues relating to river dredging and recruitment of more manpower from Bangladesh also came up in the discussions.

Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad briefed reporters after the meeting.

Both the Prime Minister and the Deputy Emir have expressed their keen interest to further strengthen bilateral relations for mutual benefit of the two countries.

The Qatari Deputy Emir expressed his interest to provide assistance to the MHM School, the lone Bangladeshi school in Doha.    

Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Ambassador at-Large M Ziauddin, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad and Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Md Shahdat Hossain were present.
