5 killers of businessman Basu arrested in capital

Dhaka, May 30 (UNB) - Police in simultaneous overnight drives from Tuesday night to early Wednesday arrested five alleged professional killers from different parts of the capital for killing businessman Basu Miah in Mirpur over two weeks ago.
Acting on secret information, a team of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police conducted simultaneous overnight drives at different parts of the city and arrested Khalil, 23, Raju, 34, Sanu, 27, Ruhul Amin, alias Ledu, 35, and Azad, 26.
The detectives also recovered three firearms, including two foreign-made pistols and one LG (locally-made gun) which were used in the gruesome murder, 22 rounds of cartridges and one motorcycles from their possessions.
A gang of armed miscreants riding two motorcycles stormed into a one-storey under-construction building and sprayed bullets at Basu Miah who was sitting on the rooftop of the building at Guran Chatbari under Shah Ali Police Station (formerly Mirpur) on May 14.
Basu Miah sustained multiple bullet wounds and succumbed to his injuries on way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees revealed that somebody hired them for Tk 5 lakh to kill Basu Miah. ``We were paid Tk 2 lakh in advance by the perpetrator``, they confessed to the interrogator.
They said that besides killing, they used to commit robbery in different places and on watercraft that ply on river routes in Savar, Keraniganj and areas under Turag Police Stations and dwelling houses in Savar and the capital`s Mirpur.
