Benapole, June 2 (UNB) - Loading and unloading of goods at Benapole land port came to a halt from this (Saturday) morning due to an indefinite strike by the port workers.

About 1,500 workers went on the strike from 9am to press for implementation of government announced minimum wages for them.

Director of Benapole port Abul Kalam Azad said the strike is illogical as their demand falls under the jurisdiction of the Labour Ministry but the port is not under this ministry.

The four companies -Logistical Systems, Hosne Ara, Khalid and Brothers and Job Communications- were assigned to recruit workers for the port.

President of Benapole Port Handling Labourers Union Jahangir Hossain Lal said they have been agitating since the last one month to realize their demand.
