Barguna, June 2 (UNB) – Transport workers enforced an indefinite transport strike in Sadar and Betagi upazilas on Saturday in protest against beating up of a driver by a government official.

Movement of all types of vehicle carrying passengers came to a halt in the upazilas from 11am due to the strike.

Local sources said Assistant Commissioner (Land) Tarafder Sohel Rahman beat up a bus driver as he delayed in stopping his vehicle ignoring the signal of the official during the drive by a mobile court from Barguna to Nishan Baria road in the morning.

Inter-district Bus Workers Union and Owners’ Association enforced the strike in protest against the incident.

They also brought out a procession and held a rally in front of Poura Super Market where the transport leaders vowed to continue their programme until the Assistant Commissioner is transferred.
