
Pabna, June 02 (UNB) – Hundreds of people from far flung areas were gathering at Ghughudaha Beel in Santhia upazila as gas was oozing out over there.
State Minister for Home Affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku, energy and mineral resources ministry officials officials visited the spot on Saturday.
They said gas was was oozing out at different points across the Ghughudaha Beel.
Experts said there could be several million cubic feet (ccmfd) of gas under the Ghughudaha Beel.
Addressing a gathering on the compound of Ghughudaha Primary Government School, Shamsul Haque Tuku said Bangladesh abounds with various natural resources, including oil, gas, coal, limestone and stone.
"The resources would be explored and properly utilised using the latest technology along with our own talent and creativity, he said adding, "If we can tap those on our own, the resources will greatly contribute to the development of the country."
Chaired by local unit Awami League leader Abdus Samad, the meeting was addressed, among others, by expert Abdul Hye, who is based in Pennsylvania of the USA, Sathia upazila unit AL convener Abdullah Al Mahmud, Rabiul Karim Hiru and journalist Azim Uddin.
