About the government’s initiative to plant trees, he said the government produced some eight crore of saplings and distributed those among people last year.
“A total of 8.5 crore saplings have been produced under the Forest Department and another 12 crore will be produced under public and private sectors,” he said.
To encourage social afforestation, Hasan Mahmud said, one lakh acre of khas land will be distributed among the poor so that they can plant saplings in this land to improve their livelihood.
