Paper recycling mill fined Tk 20.5 lakh for polluting Shitalakkha

Narayanganj, June 03 (UNB) – A waste paper recycling factory was fined Tk 20.58 lakh for polluting Shitalakkha River in Pagla on Sunday.

A DoE team, led by Director (enforcement) Munir Chowdhury, raided Islami Board Factory on the bank of Nayamati Khal (canal) at Chitrashal and found that the factory was being run without an effluent treatment plant (ETP). Besides, the factory has not yet obtained the DoE certificate.

Moreover, the factory funneled 12.86 crore liter toxic liquid wastes into Shitalakkha through Nayamat Khal.

The team slapped Tk 2058,000 fine on the factory management instantly realizing the amount asking it to stop operation immediately.
