News - 41 cops sued on charges of attempted murder
Dhaka, Jun 4 (UNB) -A pro-BNP lawyer on Monday filed a case with a Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court of Dhaka against 41 police officials, including former deputy commissioner (Lalbagh Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Khurshid Hossain, on charges of attempted murder.

Advocate Hossain Ali Khan Hassan filed the case with the CMM court of Joynab Begum in the morning.

The five other accused in the case are additional deputy commissioner Maruf Hossain, former assistant commissioner Rajib Al Masud, former officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Salaudin Khan, officer-in-charge (investigation) of the police station Mahabubul Alam and sub-inspector Mohammad Azad.

Six policemen were named in the case while 35 others were unnamed.

After the hearing, the Metropolitan Magistrate recorded the statement of the complainant and decided to pass an order on the issue in the afternoon.

In his complaint, Hassan said SI Azad as per the orders of his senior police officials hit him with a stick with a motive to kill him while he was standing on the court premises on May 16.

On that day, pro-BNP lawyers clashed with police on the premises of Dhaka Metropolitan Speedy Trial Magistrate Court after the court had rejected the bail pleas of the senior leaders of the 18-Party Alliance and sent them to jail in a case filed over torching a bus in front of the Prime Minister's Office during an opposition-sponsored shutdown.
