Critics of rental power plants ‘anti-state, anti-govt: Tawfiq Elahi
Dhaka, June 5 (UNB) - Prime Minister’s Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury on Tuesday said those who criticise the government for rental power plants are anti-state people.
“Those who oppose the rental power plants are ignorant, anti-government and anti-state,” he said while speaking at a seminar on renewable energy development, organisd by Energy & Power, a fortnightly magazine, at city’s Cirdap Auditorium.
The PM’s adviser remarks came amid the growing criticism against the rental power plants for which the government has to provide a huge subsidy. The economists and politicians are criticising the government’s such step as it mounts pressure on the economy.
Defending the government’s decision as a right step, Tawfiq Elahi said when the deal for rental power plants were signed, the price of per litre furnace oil was Tk 26 which is now Tk 60. This has put the government in big trouble.
He, however, said the government has increased the power production to more than 5,500 MW by adding about 2,000 MW of new electricity.
He said the government has also increased the gas production.
