Manikganj, Jun 6 (UNB) - A tribunal here on Tuesday convicted two persons and sentenced them to life imprisonment in a human trafficking case.

The tribunal also fined Awal Hossain of Singair upazila in the district, and Pabitra Rosario alias Gilbat, 32, of Savar in Dhaka, Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer three months RI more.

According to the prosecution, the convicts sent Rahima Khatun alias Helena, wife of Farid Ahmed of Laxmibazar in Dhaka, to Dubai with a promise to give her a job at a shop.

But she was forced to engage in flesh trade. When the victim informed her husband of the matter, Farid gave the human traffickers Tk 17,000 to get back Helena.

As the traffickers did not return his wife, Farid filed a case with Singair Police Station on May 13, 2006.

After examining the records and witnesses, Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribuanl-2 M Mafizur Rahman Bhuiyan pronounced the verdict.
