Chittagong, June 09 (UNB) – A fake employee of Power Development Board (PDB) was beaten to death allegedly by a subscriber over `ghost billing` (submission of inflated bill) at his house at Bishwa Colony in Khulshi on Wednesday.

The dead is Abdul Mannan, 45, a fake bill-supplier of PDB Agrabad-Khulshi zone. He was the son of late Mir Hossain of Sriharsha village of Langalkot upazila of Comilla district.

Police arrested one Chhoton, 24, in connection with the lynching.

Police and locals said Mannan was personally appointed by a meter reader of Khulshi PDB office to submit bill to the subscribers in the area.

He submitted an inflated bill to subscriber Sumon at his G-Bloc flat at Bishwa Colony which angered the subscriber on Wednesday afternoon.

Angered by the ghost billing Sumon locked in an altercation with the bill supplier and at one stage beat him. Hearing hue and cry a group of local youths, including Chhoton and Manik, came to the spot and joined Mannan in beating the fake PDB employee leaving him critically injured.

Being informed PDB employees came to the spot in a pick-up van and rushed Mannan to Al Amin Hospital where he died immediately after admission.

Police came to the G-Bloc flat of the colony on information and arrested Chhoton from the spot.
